Retrain your brain for success
How we think about success can have a strong impact on our career.
While defining career success is different for each person, it is important to take some time to reflect on our professional and personal accomplishments to help us define the metrics.
What we consider significant to career success may change throughout the years as we move through the various life stages. Professional and personal experience can have different effects on each of us, said Meagan Kittrick, licensed professional career counselor with the Cuyahoga County Public Library Career Center.
“By choosing a career path, we begin to build a professional identity that can be connected to other facets of life such as financial, family, social, spiritual, intellectual, and physical factors. This can help us define what we consider a success in our life,” Kittrick said.
When we struggle in the workplace and are feeling less than successful, we may need to reprogram ourselves or our outlooks to get back on the right track toward success. The change must be intentional, and it will take practice to become sustainable in the long run before it becomes a new way of thinking.
From her training, Kittrick has learned that there are three elements to help restore inspiration to achieve success. These include awareness, hope and compassion.
